The 11th annual Czech Route 66 will take place on Saturday 11 April

The most famous road numbered 66 is, of course, the American Route 66. Here in Příbram, we have something unique: the world’s shortest road numbered 66. The gathering on the Czech Route 66 takes place on Saturday 11 April.

Four hundred classic cars and motorbikes on display, not only on T. G. Masaryk Square but, for the first time, also on Pražská Street – this is the eleventh edition of Czech Route 66, taking place on Saturday 11 April.

Whilst a journey along the American ‘Mother Road’ covers 3,940 km, a trip along ours – the shortest in the world – will see your speedometer read just under eight kilometres.

The event is a regular fixture. For those hearing about it for the first time, here’s some information – the event kicks off at 10.00 am, when registered cars and motorbikes – of which around four hundred are regularly on display here – will be parked on T. G. Masaryk Square. On this day, Příbram will become the venue for the most fascinating display of both vintage and modern vehicles.

In the morning, visitors will be able to view the cars and motorbikes on display, and at around 1.00 pm, participants will set off on the traditional Czech Route 66 ride. There will also be a supporting programme, featuring interviews with participants and event partners, as well as a performance by the band Blue Moon Club. The event is free for visitors.

Saturday’s programme will also necessitate certain traffic restrictions, both in terms of normal parking on T. G. Masaryk Square and the closure of the road from the roundabout on T. G. Masaryk Square to the junction with Špitálská Street. This traffic restriction is scheduled to be in place from 10.00 to 14.00.

The restrictions will also affect bus routes 500 and 501, which will be suspended between 8.00 am and 2.00 pm. During this period, the bus stops ‘Příbram, Milínská-Mixova’, ‘Příbram, Mixova’, ‘Příbram, Pod Kaňkou’, ‘Příbram, Barandov’, ‘Příbram, Sázky’, ‘Příbram, Slivických bojovníků’ will be suspended in both directions, whilst the ‘Příbram, Milínská’ stops will be relocated – in both directions for both routes – to the regular stop ‘Příbram, Československé armády’ and ‘Příbram, náměstí T. G. Masaryka’ – for route 501 towards Drkolnov to the stop ‘Příbram, Plzeňská’.

Finally, here are a couple of interesting facts – Příbram has had its own RT 66 since 1997, when the roads were renumbered. The American Route 66 will celebrate its centenary in November this year.
