Renovation work has begun on Pražská, Zahradnická and Potoční streets

At the beginning of April, work began on repairing the pavements on Pražská, Zahradnická and Potoční streets. On the latter street, the work is almost complete.

The repair of pavements in the streets of the old town centre of Příbram is divided into three phases. Within a few weeks, therefore, the newly repaired pavements will be ready on Pražská Street, Václavské Square and the adjoining Zahradnická and Potoční Streets.

“Repairs to the pavements on these streets are essential. The original large-format tiles on the existing pavements are damaged, cracked or loose in many places. Put simply, walking on them is not comfortable,” says First Deputy Mayor Vladimír Karpíšek by way of introduction.

Work began on Potoční Street, where a strip of large-format paving ran down the centre of the street. These tiles were removed and replaced with traditional granite paving stones. The next phase, currently underway, is on Zahradnická Street, where the large-format paving slabs will be removed from the pavements on both sides and replaced, once again, with granite cobblestones.

“The undamaged large-format paving stones from the pavements on Zahradnická Street will be cleaned and used as part of the pavement repairs on Pražská Street and Wenceslas Square,” added Vladimír Karpíšek.

The next phase of the reconstruction will take place on Pražská Street itself, where the pavements on both sides will be repaired, as well as in the upper section of Wenceslas Square. Here, the damaged large-format paving slabs will be replaced with new ones, and any unstable sections will be re-laid. Work on all stages of the pavement repairs in the aforementioned streets will be carried out gradually so as to minimise disruption to access to individual buildings and businesses. The completion date is the end of May.

The estimated value of the contract was 2,541,000 CZK including VAT. Three companies submitted tenders, and Kosta Příbram, with the lowest tender price of 2,096,707 CZK including VAT, was awarded the contract and is carrying out the work.

“The repairs will be a step in the right direction, but we must urge shopkeepers and delivery drivers not to drive their vehicles onto the pavements, otherwise the paving will be damaged again,” added First Deputy Mayor Karpíšek.
