Preparations for the miners’ festival are in full swing

This year, specifically from 12 to 14 June, mining festivities will take place in Příbram, in conjunction with the 30th Meeting of Mining Towns and Villages of the Czech Republic and the 19th European Day of Miners and Metallurgists.

Příbram is a mining town, and we have not forgotten our history, even many years after all mining operations ceased. Thirty years ago, the first Meeting of Mining Towns and Villages of the Czech Republic took place in Příbram, and the event returns to the town every ten years. The 30th gathering, which coincides with the 19th European Day of Miners and Metallurgists, will take place from 12 to 14 June. 

Preparations for the event, which will be attended by, amongst others, miners’ associations from across Europe, are no simple matter.

“Planning and preparations for the event – which, moreover, is taking place in the year the town is commemorating 810 years since its first written mention – began last year. Just as we did ten, twenty and thirty years ago, we are coordinating everything with the Příbram associations, primarily with the Guild of Příbram Miners and Metallurgists. It is estimated that around 1,200 members of miners’ and metallurgists’ associations from across Europe will visit Příbram as part of the June gathering,” says Mayor Jan Konvalinka. 

The programme for the miners’ festivities is therefore currently being finalised. Nevertheless, we can already reveal that on the dates mentioned, we can look forward to a grand miners’ parade, as well as activities for the invited miners’ associations and the general public. 

“There is no doubt that the events mentioned above – namely the Meeting of Miners’ Towns and Villages of the Czech Republic and the European Day of Miners and Metallurgists – are prestigious. As mentioned, Příbram is making preparations, and local associations, schools and other organisations are closely involved in the arrangements. I can reveal that a few days ago, a banner arrived in the town from Bad Ischl in Austria, which serves as the symbol of the aforementioned 19th European Day of Miners and Metallurgists,” added First Deputy Mayor Vladimír Karpíšek.
