The city is allocating tens of millions of crowns in grants, with the largest share going to sport

The agenda for the April meeting of the town council included, amongst other things, items relating to programme and individual grants. The councillors approved the town council’s proposal without amendment.

Culture, education and training, social affairs and healthcare, the environment, the voluntary fire service, monuments of local significance, international and inter-municipal cooperation, care for stray cats and sport – these were the categories of grant applications considered by the Příbram City Council at its meeting on Wednesday 22 April. 

“Hundreds of applications submitted across all categories were processed and reviewed by committee members, who, following a thorough assessment, proposed grant amounts for individual applicants. This proposal was subsequently approved by the city council. In most cases, the councillors agreed with the committee’s proposals, and only in a few instances was the final amount, which was presented at the council meeting, altered,” said Mayor Jan Konvalinka in his opening remarks.

Councillors discussed the following grant schemes:

• Programme grant for the social and health sector – 25 applications, total amount allocated: 4,389,000 CZK
• Programme grant for Volunteer Fire Brigades – 7 applications, total amount allocated: 250,000 Kč
• Programme grant for the Environment – 7 applications, total amount allocated: 208,900 CZK
• Individual grant to the ‘Příbramské kočky, z.s.’ association – 900,000 CZK
• Individual grant to the Kočičiny, z.s. association – 399,450 CZK
• Programme grant for Upbringing and Education – 22 applications (21 approved; one application was withdrawn just before the city council meeting), total amount allocated: 999,900 CZK
• Programme grant for ‘Cultural Activities’ – 41 applications (39 approved), total amount allocated: 2,204,000 CZK
• Programme grant for Monuments of Local Importance – 5 applications (4 approved), total amount allocated: 200,000 CZK
• Programme grant for International and Inter-municipal Cooperation – 10 applications (8 approved), total amount allocated: 715,000 CZK
• Programme grant for ‘Activities of Sports Organisations’ – 22 applications, total amount allocated: 6,500,000 CZK
• Programme grant for Czech National Team Athletes – 6 applications (5 approved), total amount allocated: 330,000 CZK
• Programme grant: Development and Repair of Sports Facilities – 5 applications (3 approved), total amount allocated: 1,000,000 CZK
• Programme grant for ‘Sporting Events’ – 22 applications, total amount allocated: 1,436,000 CZK
• Programme grant for ‘Prominent Sports Clubs’ – 2 applications, total amount allocated: 9,800,000 CZK

Under the above-mentioned grants, almost 30,000,000 crowns were allocated, although not all of the allocated funds were distributed in every case. The largest unspent amount relates to the ‘Major Sports Clubs’ programme grant, for which applications are submitted by the three largest clubs – Příbram Volleyball Club, FK Příbram and HC Příbram Ice Hockey Club. The latter club did not receive the grant because only a draft application was submitted. The application was therefore not submitted in the form required by the rules and cannot be considered to have been submitted. 

“Councillors across the political spectrum approved the applications without amendment. I am pleased that the discussion was conducted constructively and that the possibility of supporting the ice hockey club – which, unfortunately, made a mistake when submitting its application for a programme grant – remains open,” added Mayor Konvalinka.
