The first phase of expanding the capacity of the municipal cemetery is getting underway
The town of Příbram is planning to expand and refurbish the municipal cemetery at Hvězdička. Work on the first phase is due to begin in early June.
As part of the redevelopment of the municipal cemetery, a number of works are planned, which will be divided into several phases. The first of these will commence on Monday 1 June. During this first phase, a solid monolithic wall and part of the columbarium will be constructed in the area above the garden centre adjacent to the municipal cemetery. The new fencing, consisting of a solid wall, will run behind the monument – as viewed from Jinecká Street – amongst the existing trees. Further niches for storing urns will be installed here in the future. This phase, which will be carried out over a period of five months, will also include refurbishment of the entrance gate from Jinecká Street, repairs to the stone fence along the ceremonial hall, and repairs to the old wall between the cemeteries. In addition to the work mentioned, the path leading to the scattering meadow will also be reinforced.
“Increasing the capacity of the Příbram cemetery is essential. For this reason, the project includes the construction of a columbarium and preparations for its future expansion. A columbarium is a memorial structure that is currently lacking in our cemeteries and for which there is demand amongst the bereaved. Above all, it is a solution that allows for expansion within a relatively small space,” says Mayor Jan Konvalinka.
A total of five companies submitted tenders in response to the public tender for the first phase of the town cemetery’s expansion. Staler, spol. s r. o. was selected as the winning bidder with the lowest tender price of 10,483,142.67 CZK incl. VAT, whilst the estimated value was 11,950,565 CZK incl. VAT.
“The phased redevelopment has already begun; as part of the work carried out by Technical Services, sections of the paths have been reinforced, the landscaping has been improved, and the litter bins have been replaced. Work will continue both as part of the aforementioned renovation carried out by the construction firm and through the activities of our Technical Services department,” added Mayor Konvalinka.
The cemetery renovation work will not result in its closure, but visitors are advised to exercise extra caution whilst walking through the grounds. Finally, we should add that the parking spaces directly in front of the ceremonial hall will no longer be available for use, for safety reasons, as collisions between pedestrians and motorists have occurred during funeral services. Visitors to the cemetery can use the car park on Jinecká Street, which is only a few dozen metres from the entrance gate. Parking in this car park is free for two hours when using a parking disc.
