The age of the water mains has taken its toll – the pipes on K Jamkám Street in Lazec are to be replaced

Last year, reconstruction work began on two streets in Lazec as part of the construction of a storm water drainage system. One of the streets will be completed in line with the original plans, whilst the other will undergo changes following an agreement between residents and the town council. Work is now under way to address a breakdown in the water main. 

Residents of the streets Do Polí and K Jamkám in Lazec are currently affected by the works, which involve the construction of a storm water drainage system and, according to the project documentation, alterations to the street layout. During the works, residents of both streets requested a change to the project. Changes to the project documentation will ultimately only be made on K Jamkám Street, where all those affected have agreed to the change. On Do Polí Street, one resident did not give her consent to the change, and the reconstruction will therefore be completed in accordance with the original project documentation. 

The current situation is therefore that Do Polí Street will be completed as soon as possible, taking weather conditions into account. In the case of K Jamkám Street, an application has been submitted for planning permission to amend the works prior to completion. However, excavation work will now take place on this street once again, as there has been a fault on the water main.

“We have received information from the water infrastructure operator that minor leaks were found along the entire length of the main water main during inspections, which is due to the age of the entire network. For this reason, work to replace the aforementioned main will take place from Monday 23 February,” says First Deputy Mayor Vladimír Karpíšek. 

The fault on the water main will require further excavation work on the street in question, and consequently cause some disruption, including potential issues with parking in the village. Following an agreement between Deputy Mayor Miroslav Peterka and the management of the Pepa Children’s Home, residents have once again been granted permission to park on the home’s premises. 

“I’m sorry that we have to carry out excavation work on K Jamkám Street again. However, I think it makes sense to repair the water main now so that the newly laid surfaces do not have to be dug up again later,” adds Mayor Jan Konvalinka.
