The Prokop Fair, the fire brigade fountain and the blessing of the new water tanker
This weekend sees the Prokop Fair, which this year coincides with celebrations marking 140 years since the founding of the Březové Hory Volunteer Fire Brigade and the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Březové Hory Sokol Sports Club. The celebrations will begin on Friday evening with a fire brigade fountain display at Hořejší Obora.
The first weekend in July is traditionally reserved for the Prokop Fair, which this year is linked to the celebrations marking the founding of the Březové Hory Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Březové Hory Sokol Sports Club. Whilst Sunday’s programme will feature traditional fair activities, Saturday will be dedicated to the firefighters and Sokol members. The firefighters will kick off the programme as early as Friday 3 July, when they will put on a fire brigade light show at Hořejší Obora at 9 pm.
On Saturday 4 July, the programme will begin with a ceremonial march by the firefighters, setting off at 9.00 am from 17 November Square. This will be followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the presentation of awards and a firefighting demonstration at J. A. Alis Square. From 11.30 am, the programme will continue with the blessing of the new fire engine. The afternoon programme will feature music, dancing and demonstrations of activities by the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Sokol Březové Hory Sports Club.
“This year is packed with events; following the recent miners’ festivities, we have the Prokop Fair, which this year is marked by two significant anniversaries. The programme is different from previous years, but we certainly have plenty to look forward to. After several years, the fire brigade display will take place once again, featuring a fire brigade light fountain at Hořejší Obora on Friday,” says Mayor Jan Konvalinka, inviting people to the upcoming event.
Sunday’s programme will once again begin with a parade – the Miners’ Parade. The parade will set off at 9 am from 17 November Square. Once again, the Miners’ Parade will head to Březové Hory, where the miners’ cross at the Marie Mine will be consecrated, and you can attend an open-air mass in front of St Prokop’s Church. At 2 pm, the programme will begin at the Ševčinský Mine site.
The Prokop Pilgrimage, taking place from 3 to 5 July, will also affect bus services, specifically routes 503, 508, 505, 509 and 521. During this period, the following stops will be suspended: ‘Příbram, Březové Hory, Mariánská’, ‘Příbram, Březové Hory, náměstí’, ‘Příbram, Březové Hory, domov seniorů’, ‘Příbram, Březové Hory’. The following stop is being introduced: “Příbram, Březové Hory, Karla Pobudy”.
