Repairs to the cultural centre’s terrace have begun

The Příbram Cultural Centre is undergoing a gradual refurbishment. Work has been underway since last year on the refurbishment of the Small Stage at the A. Dvořák Theatre, and repairs to the terrace have now begun.

The Cultural Centre in Příbram was built between 1957 and 1959 and has been undergoing much-needed renovation in recent years. The cinema auditorium and the auditorium of the Main Stage have been refurbished, and a lift has been installed, making the building accessible to people with disabilities. The first phase of the renovation of the Small Stage is currently being completed, and the second phase will follow on seamlessly. A new development this season is the repair of the terrace, which began last week. 

“The terrace of the cultural centre is in a state where it requires urgent repair. The renovation will not only involve replacing the terrace surface, but also restoring all the underlying layers and the waterproofing, and the terrace’s drainage gradient will be adjusted. The lighting and flower boxes will be refurbished, and all sandstone elements, including the cladding slabs, will be repaired or replaced. “Work has begun and should be completed during May,” says Mayor Jan Konvalinka, adding that access to the cultural centre will be maintained throughout the repairs. 

A total of three bidders submitted tenders for the contract entitled ‘Repair of the terrace at the Belvedere Hotel in Příbram’, although one was disqualified due to a lack of clarification regarding their tender. The winning bid was submitted by Buildgener, s. r. o., at a price of CZK 4,515,115 including VAT.

“In this case too, the town has managed to award the contract for less than the estimated value – by almost 560,000 CZK,” added Mayor Konvalinka. 

As the Příbram Cultural Centre has been a listed building since 2006, all work is being carried out under the supervision of the heritage conservation authorities. 

The estimated completion date for the terrace repairs is the end of May/beginning of June this year.
