Urban Mobility Day – activities for children, free public transport

On Friday 18 September, as part of Urban Mobility Day, Příbram’s public transport will be free for passengers. Vintage buses and a train will also be in service, and those interested will be able to take a ride on a handcar.

Urban Mobility Day is an event aimed at raising awareness amongst the city’s residents of the benefits of public transport, walking or cycling in their everyday lives in the city. As part of Urban Mobility Day, public transport will run free of charge throughout the day. In addition, vintage Karosa ŠL 11 and Škoda 706 RTO CAR buses will be in service, running at half-hourly intervals on a circular route through the centre of Příbram, past both health centres, the bus station and Svatá Hora. The starting point will be Legionářů Street, above the children’s traffic playground, and the first vintage bus will set off from this stop at 10.40, with the last one departing at 17.40.

This year’s Urban Mobility Day will take place at the Children’s Traffic Playground. A range of activities will be organised here for visitors to try out between 2 pm and 6 pm. There will be a hire service for scooters, pedal carts and bouncers, and you can look forward to a bike show, demonstrations and other activities. Please note that children must wear helmets when riding any vehicle on the traffic playground, so please do not forget to bring them with you.

There will also be a programme for train enthusiasts – this year, the Příbram Express will be running with the historic M 240.028 railcar, also known as the ‘Singrovka’. The train will run between the ‘Příbram sídliště’ stop, Příbram railway station and Kovohutě. Selected afternoon services will also stop at the temporary ‘Příbram Klaudova’ stop below the traffic playground. An unusual highlight will be the chance to take a ride on a historic rail handcar dating from 1897, which will run continuously without a fixed timetable. At the station itself, guided tours of the signalman’s post will be available, starting at 11.45, 13.45, 15.45 and 16.45.

“This is the fifth time we have organised Urban Mobility Day. As well as the activities at the traffic playground, visitors can take a ride through the city on historic buses, hop on a historic train, or have a go on the handcar. The programme is packed with activities, so there’s something for everyone. In organising this event, the main emphasis is on encouraging people to think about the various options for getting around the city, and to realise that it isn’t always necessary to rely solely on private cars,” says First Deputy Mayor Vladimír Karpíšek

During the event, a mobile information office – the so-called PID Point – will also be available to visitors, where they can: have a PID Lítačka card issued immediately, including having their photograph taken; top up their travel voucher; verification of eligibility for discounts; assistance with the app; route searches; fare information; printing of timetables; and much more. The PID Point will be located near the traffic playground.
