Mixed municipal waste

This refers to household waste after recyclable materials and hazardous waste have been sorted out (e.g. kitchen waste, rubbish, ash, soiled paper, paper nappies, etc.); only this waste belongs in bins or containers for municipal waste.

Recyclable waste

Residents can dispose of sorted household waste free of charge in recycling bins. These bins are located at over 200 sites in and around the town (recycling bin locations). To report full or damaged recycling bins, you can use the form on the Technical Services website or the mobile app, which also provides information on the correct way to sort waste. You can download it free of charge onto mobile devices running iOS and Android under the name ‘Waste Sorting in Příbram’.

What belongs in the recycling bins:

• PLASTICS (yellow bin)

film, bags, plastic carrier bags, flattened PET bottles, packaging from washing powders and cosmetics, yoghurt pots, dairy product pots, cling film from consumer goods, CD cases, polystyrene foam and other plastic products.

The following do not belong in the container: Bakelite, rubber, PVC, linoleum and tyres.

• PAPER (blue bin)

newspapers, magazines, exercise books, boxes or paper packaging, envelopes with plastic windows, unbound books, office paper and other paper of all kinds. Paper with paper clips is acceptable.

Do not place paper with a plastic or aluminium foil coating (e.g. Tetra Pak cartons for milk and other products), or wet, greasy or otherwise soiled paper in the bin.

• GLASS (white or green bin)

Glass bottles, for example from wine, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and jars from ketchup, jam or preserves. There is no need to break up sorted glass; it will be sorted further!

The following items do not belong in the container: fluorescent tubes, porcelain, ceramics, plexiglass, metal bottle caps, car windscreen glass, wired glass, mirrors.

• BEVERAGE CARTONS (bright orange bin or racks with plastic bags and lids)

Cartons from juice, wine, milk and dairy products, and sauces, which must be properly flattened before being placed in the bin. Cartons contaminated with various substances, e.g. hazardous waste such as oils or paints, do not belong in the container or rack.

• OILS (brown lockable container)

Pour cooled cooking fats and oils into a PET bottle (never a glass one!).

The container is not intended for technical oils, lubricants or fluids, e.g. from vehicles. 

• METALS (grey bin)

Small metal items, aluminium and metal lids, and empty, washed-out food and drink tins can be disposed of in the designated collection bins at the recycling centre.

The following must not be placed in the container: metal containers containing residues of hazardous substances, such as paint tins, aerosols and varnishes.

• ELECTRONIC WASTE (red metal bins)

• Electronics and electrical appliances – mobile phones, electric toys, hairdryers, keyboards, calculators, MP3 and MP4 players, etc. (large opening in the bin).
• Batteries (small opening in the bin)

Fluorescent tubes, energy-saving light bulbs, PC monitors and televisions do not belong in these bins – as they will break when thrown in – they must be handed in free of charge at a recycling centre as returnable products

• TEXTILES

You can place summer and winter clothing, bedding, sheets, towels, tea towels, curtains, fabrics, feathers, down and wadding-filled duvets, pillows and blankets, and footwear – all undamaged, with pairs tied together or secured with an elastic band to prevent them from getting lost – as well as soft toys.

Do not place soiled or damp textiles, electronic items, mattresses or carpets in the container.

By donating unwanted textiles, you are helping organisations such as Diakonie Broumov or Klokánek. 

• ORGANIC WASTE (brown bins) 

grass, leaves, turf, sawdust, plant cuttings, roots, vegetable leaves, flowers, potting soil, shredded or chopped waste from pruning shrubs and trees, fruit and vegetable scraps, plant-based kitchen waste, windfall fruit mixed with grass, shrub cuttings or soil.

The following items do not belong in the bin: food scraps, oils, kitchen waste of animal origin, meat, bones, dead animals, nappies, non-biodegradable waste and other types of waste.

Hazardous waste

Solvent residues, acids, photochemicals, pesticides, chemically contaminated packaging, fluorescent tubes and other waste containing mercury (discharge lamps, broken thermometers, etc.), used engine and gear oils, grease, paint residues, adhesives, medicines, lead-acid batteries, etc. do not belong in bins or containers for household waste.

Hazardous waste can be handed in at the recycling centre

Expired medicines and medicine packaging are classified as hazardous waste and are collected free of charge by all pharmacies in the town.

Garden waste

Waste can be: 

• composted on your own property or in your garden
• place in pre-booked containers

• by prior arrangement, take it to the composting facility at the Bytíz landfill site, tel. 312 312 762

Burning plant material that is not dry is prohibited (Act No. 201/2012 Coll., on Air Protection)

Construction waste

Waste generated during the construction, maintenance, renovation and demolition of buildings. Please
note: construction waste containing asbestos is classified as hazardous waste.

If you are disposing of a scrap car, you are obliged to hand it over only to authorised persons, who will issue you with a certificate of environmentally sound disposal of the scrap car upon handover. For example:

Make a note of the registration number, colour and type of vehicle, the date, time and, if applicable, the type of waste. Take photographs.
