Information on air quality in Příbram

In Příbram, air pollution is measured using an AIM (automated air pollution monitoring) station, which is operated by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (hereinafter referred to as ČHMÚ). This monitoring station is located on Generála Kholla Street in Příbram VII. Up-to-date information on measured values and advice for the public is published at: http://www.chmi.cz, Air Quality Index and Advice.

Smog situation

A smog situation is a state of exceptionally polluted air in which the level of pollution by carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, tropospheric ozone or PM10 particulate matter exceeds one of the threshold values under the conditions specified by law. The Ministry of the Environment, through the authorised organisation, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), declares the onset and end of a smog situation. At the same time, it provides the public with information, via the media and social media, on forecasts for the coming period and on the population groups at risk from this situation. Stationary sources that contribute significantly to pollution levels being exceeded in a given locality are subject to specific operating conditions during a smog situation. Selected operators of stationary sources subject to regulation shall, in accordance with their regulatory codes, restrict or halt the operation of their facilities. Further possible measures in the event of a smog alert:

  • car drivers should, where possible, avoid driving, as vehicle emissions contribute significantly to increased concentrations of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide;
  • another source of this pollution is local heating systems burning solid fuels; it is therefore recommended that the use of such sources be appropriately restricted or, where possible, that a higher-quality fuel be used;
  • It is recommended that activities involving excessive dust formation (e.g. the movement of loose materials, soil, rubble, etc.) should not be carried out. In the event of an impending smog situation, members of the public are advised to monitor the latest information on air quality developments. Detailed information on air quality is available on the CHMI website.
