Basic information:

The owner of a water structure is obliged to notify the water authority of any maintenance work that could adversely affect the environment or the stability of the water structure. Notification is also required for the restoration of waterworks destroyed by a natural disaster or an accident (Section 15(2) of the Water Act, Section 177(3) of the Building Act). Building alterations involving a change in the use of part of a building, which do not affect the load-bearing structures of the building, do not alter its appearance and do not require an environmental impact assessment (Section 104(2)(n) of the Building Act) are subject to notification.

Procedure:

The developer may carry out the notified maintenance works and building alterations on the basis of written consent from the water authority. If the developer does not receive consent within 40 days of the date on which the notification was received by the authority, nor is a prohibition under Section 107 of the Building Act served on them within this period, the water authority is deemed to have granted consent. The consent is valid for 12 months. It does not lapse if construction has commenced within this period.
The time limit for the water authority to state that it has no objections to the restoration of waterworks destroyed by a natural disaster or accident is 15 days.

The developer or their representative (by power of attorney).
