Information on trees to be felled
Felling of Canadian poplars on Žežická Street.
On 16 February 2024, the Department of the Environment, acting as the nature conservation authority, granted permission for the felling of Canadian poplars on Žežická Street, reference number MeUPB 14035/2024/OŽP/DUS. Permission to fell the trees had already been granted in the past, but they were not removed. As short-lived tree species, poplars are used in the countryside as windbreaks due to their rapid growth. In an urban environment, they age more quickly and their large, brittle branches break off, posing a significant risk of injury.
We have therefore initiated a further felling authorisation process, and the trees will be removed.
I have attached the arborist’s report on the individual trees, which clearly sets out their health status. This is consistent with the tree inventory, which, as far back as 2020, assessed certain trees as hazardous and designated them for felling. It is not possible to remove only some of them; the remaining stand would be unstable due to the altered conditions. There would be a further risk of dry branches breaking and a danger of injury along a busy road.
A row of Populus nigra trees on Žežická Street – a large-crowned
taxon, short-lived, easily replaceable. Trees in close proximity to the road on the boundary of the ZUNZ plot – maintenance class 1.
Planted too close together; the trees are spindly, leaning and have markedly asymmetrical crowns. Overloaded skeletal branches, thick dry branches in the crowns – Health status slightly deteriorated 1–2. Overall stability rating 2–3.
Felling recommended.
