Family trees

The Family Trees project in Příbram enables the town’s residents to plant ‘adopted’ trees. Anyone can plant their own tree, whether to mark an anniversary, the birth of a child, or simply for the pleasure of it.

There are two options for choosing a planting site:

• a location of your own choosing on council land. The suitability of the chosen site will be assessed by the Department of the Environment and the parks and gardens manager. Habitat requirements and compliance with the public green space plan will be taken into account; the exact location of the tree and its species will depend on this,
• at a pre-selected location – such as a row of trees, for example, by the roundabout leading to Kaňka Pond or behind the primary school on Školní Street. 

All planting proposals must be submitted to the Environment Department, where consultation will take place and, where necessary, a tree species will be selected. The green space manager will provide interested parties with soil, compost, trunk protection and anchoring. The tree itself, the cost of which is borne by the resident, may be procured by the green space manager by mutual agreement. The approximate cost is around 2,000 CZK. The planting will be carried out by the citizen themselves under the supervision of the green spaces manager; once the tree has been labelled with a nameplate, the green spaces manager will be responsible for subsequent maintenance in the case of row planting, whilst for individual trees, maintenance – including watering – will be the direct responsibility of the citizens.
