Still Life

park Zátiší
The park was established at the end of the 19th century as a man-made open space surrounded by schools, a Sokol hall and a cemetery.

It was originally called Škodovo zátiší. The name is derived from the concepts of peace and tranquillity, perhaps because the site is sheltered from strong winds by the stately public buildings erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Even at the beginning of the 20th century, lively cultural and social events took place here.

Amidst centuries-old oaks, lime trees and horse-chestnuts stands the sculpture *The Lovers* from 1973 by the sculptor Miloš Hruška.

The benches and lawns here are mainly used by pupils and students from nearby schools. In 2014, the mature trees underwent comprehensive maintenance and new trees and shrubs were planted.
