History of the water park
Since 2016, no word has been mentioned more often in connection with the Příbram Aquapark than ‘renovation’. The pool is finally set to undergo this after a long forty years of operation. What did the pool look like when it was first built, and what is the history of the Příbram Municipal Sports Centre?
It all began with TěReZa The Příbram
Aquapark was built in 1977 as part of a sports complex called the Příbram District Sports and Recreation Facilities, known as TěReZa. The first visitor to the swimming pool was Mr Karel Hrbek, who came to try out the 25-metre-long pool for himself at 6.00 am on 2 January 1978, when the pool was officially opened.
In its day, the swimming pool in Příbram was a unique structure and one of the best public swimming pools in the country. As proof, here is a quote from issue 42 of the magazine *Stadion* from 1978: “Uranium mining requires compensation on the surface. And Příbram is a prime example of the opportunities that can be offered for recreation, physical education and elite sport.”
New attractions and facilities
Over the years, there have been phased renovations, repairs and an expansion of the range of services on offer. Water slides and whirlpools have been added, and the glass wall separating the small pool from the large one has been removed.
Among the most recent improvements, it is worth mentioning the modernisation of the toilet facilities by the children’s pool, new toilets for the nursery changing rooms, the extensive refurbishment of the boiler room and plant room in 2014, the fitting out of the drying rooms with professional hair dryers worth a total of 203,000 CZK, and the purchase of a professional cleaning machine to improve cleaning standards.
The Establishment of the Příbram
Municipal Sports Facility After the facility ceased to operate under the name ‘TěReZa Příbram’, the town leased it to private operators; however, this proved unsuccessful, and the facility came under the management of Technical Services. The facility remained in this state until 2004, when, on 1 July, a new subvented organisation, the Příbram Municipal Sports Facility, was established.
