Landscape relics in Příbram and the surrounding area
An analysis of so-called landscape relics in Příbram and the surrounding area, along with proposals on which ones to preserve and develop in the future and how to do so, was carried out by studio-relinkt on behalf of the town.
Landscape relics are all around us. We often pass them by without noticing them.

What are landscape relics?
Landscape relics are tangible and intangible traces of the past which, for various reasons, have lost their function, ceased to exist or are inaccessible, yet remain inscribed in some way in the present-day landscape, either physically or in the land register. They bear witness to the cultural and natural uses of the landscape. They are often still owned by the local authority and have significant potential to strengthen identity and non-motorised connections between the town and the countryside, as well as to become a multifunctional tool in the fight against climate change.
In 2024, the town commissioned a study entitled ‘Strategy for the Restoration and Development of Landscape Relics in the Town of Příbram’, the aim of which was to analyse the potential of defunct landscape features. The document focused on lost paths, wetlands, tree-lined avenues and other landscape structures that once shaped the character of the area. The study not only describes their historical significance and current traces in the landscape, but also proposes new ways of integrating these features into the city’s existing network of slow transport and blue-green infrastructure.
Strategy for the Restoration and Development of Příbram’s Landscape Relics
In 2025, the town organised a series of workshops aimed at involving both the public and the local authority in identifying priorities for restoration. Following discussions and a joint selection process, a single pilot site was identified where the concept of restoring these relics would be tested in practice. This turned out to be the disused path between Kozičín and Lesopark. This is the longest lost path in the Příbram area (approx. 1 km), which is still owned by the town and offers great potential to reconnect two key recreational areas – Lesopark and the Brdy Hills.
The pilot project was named ‘CESTOVATEL’ (Traveller), thanks to the shape of the cadastral plot, which resembles a figure walking through the countryside. This symbol has come to embody the whole concept of restoring landscape relics: creating new green spaces for residents’ everyday recreation whilst reconnecting the town with the surrounding countryside.

Both the study and the CESTOVATEL project itself were carried out by a team of landscape architects from Studio Relinkt. The workshops were co-organised by architect Zdeněk Ent.
