Láz

Location: 8 km south-west of Příbram; the western edge of the village forms the boundary of a military training area. The source of the Litavka stream is situated in the woods above the village.

Once a mining village surrounded by the deep forests of the Brdy Hills. A navigation canal runs from the Brdy ponds (Pilský and Lázský), which used to supply water to the ore-processing plants in Příbram. It was built in the mid-19th century and has now become an important engineering monument. Today, these waterworks supply Příbram with drinking water. The River Litavka rises below Lázský Pond. The immediate proximity of the administrative area to a vast military zone is a defining feature of the village’s landscape.

From the town’s mining history: The spoil heaps and waste dumps, particularly between the church and Achač’s mill, bear witness to the fact that mining took place here on a large scale in ancient times. From more recent times, these include the Štěpánka pit (opened in 1827), the František pit (opened in 1841), Řimbaba (dug in 1847) and the Bohumín mine (Rudolfka, Štefani, 25 February – dug in 1877). Galena and stibnite were mined in all these pits.
