Altötting lies at the foot of the Alps, in a mountainous landscape between Munich, Passau and Salzburg.

Altötting, also known as the Heart of Bavaria, has been one of Europe’s most important Marian pilgrimage sites for over 500 years. Ever since a miraculous healing took place there in 1489 through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, nearly a million pilgrims have made the journey there every year.

Since 2009, Altötting, together with Příbram, has been part of the “Central European Pilgrimage Sites” project.
