The Ernestinum Cottage – Dehumidification of the external walls

The aim of the project ‘Ernestinum Manor House – Dehumidification of Perimeter Walls’ is to construct a drainage system to divert rainwater from the immediate vicinity of most of the perimeter structures of the – Ernestina and the construction of a stormwater drainage system to which the existing downpipes will be connected.

These are currently mostly discharged directly onto the ground, which contributes to water seepage into the surrounding ground and the resulting increased dampness in the building’s perimeter walls. The entire project is based on a survey of the damp masonry in the building, which shows that the perimeter structures, particularly in the northern part of the ground floor (which has no basement) and in the basement of the Ernestina Manor House, are most severely affected by damp (very high to extreme dampness). Dampness in the masonry impairs the indoor air quality and leads to recurring surface defects.

The implementation of remediation measures is essential in view of the use of spaces with higher demands on the microclimate and hygiene standards.
