Seniors’ Day 2017

The town of Příbram organised a regional Seniors’ Day celebration to mark International Day of Older Persons. The first edition took place in Příbram last year and was a great success; for this reason, the town decided to repeat the event. The Seniors’ Day took place on 30 September 2017 and was held on 17 November Square in Příbram. This year’s celebrations included a themed programme where senior citizens could celebrate their later years with their loved ones and, where relevant, learn about the activities organised for them by the region, the town and its partners in the field of senior citizens’ policy.

One of the aims of the Senior Citizens’ Day celebrations was to highlight the status of senior citizens in our society, to give the general public an insight into their everyday lives, and to demonstrate their irreplaceable role in our community. The event was attended by senior citizens and their whole families, who came together to celebrate our oldest generation and to show that senior citizens know how to have fun too. An integral part of the event was also an awareness campaign to support the full participation of senior citizens in our society. The event was opened by Deputy Mayor Alena Ženíšková, Stanislav Holobrada, Director of the Příbram Regional Hospital, and Jan Konvalinka, Director of the Centre for Social and Health Services. The main stage programme featured performances by Stanislav Hložek, Heidi Janků, Marcel Zmožek and Milan Pitkin. There were also performances by the Bobcats Cheerleaders and the TC R.A.K. dance group.

The supporting programme included: a Senior Café – free coffee and cake for senior citizens, blood pressure checks, BMI, health stands (cancer prevention, mole checks, hand hygiene education, exhaled CO testing, nutritional consultations, etc.), games for senior citizens (memory training, brain teasers, etc.), presentations of services for the elderly, the Senior Point contact centre, a presentation of the Příbram Senior Card, a discussion on health topics: diabetes, cancer and others, presentations by organisations supporting the elderly and activities organised by the town/region, and discounts from partner organisations at the event venue (securing attractive discounts during the time and at the venue of the celebrations).
