Regeneration of public spaces – pedestrian zone
| Project title | Regeneration of public space – ‘Cíl’ pedestrian zone, Příbram |
| Grant provider | State Investment Support Fund |
| Brief description of the project | The aim of the project is to revitalise a very busy part of the Křižáky housing estate, specifically the ‘Cíl’ zone, which – based on a questionnaire survey, a perception map and other assessments – was identified as the most problematic area within the estate. Furthermore, the project addresses the ageing population of the town by improving accessibility and, through the revitalised space, will reduce negative social impacts. Given that the area also houses a library branch frequented by children and young people, improving natural light, enhancing the attractiveness of the space and increasing the sense of safety are key reasons for implementing the project. In contrast to the current, highly unsatisfactory condition, the proposed redevelopment is designed to ensure that the public space is cleaner, simpler and, above all, more clearly laid out and safer for passers-by. The project builds on previous projects which identified this area as problematic precisely because of the very poor condition of the public space. The surrounding blocks of flats, built using non-prefabricated construction methods between 1945 and 1990, reflect the current condition of the ‘Cíl’ zone. The project comprehensively addresses the ‘Cíl’ zone, which forms the main thoroughfare of the ‘Křižáky’ housing estate.
