Description of the department’s activities

• carries out trade inspections within the meaning of the Trade Licensing Act, including the administration of related matters
• monitors compliance with selected provisions of the Consumer Protection Act and the Excise Duties Act
• monitors compliance with certain obligations relating to the Act on Restrictions on the Operation of Pawnbrokers and Other Establishments at Night
• imposes penalties through administrative proceedings, orders and on-the-spot fines for breaches of the conditions laid down by law
• inspects agricultural businesses
• co-operates with the supervisory authorities of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (ČOI), the Czech Food Safety Authority (ČZPI), the Regional Public Health Authority (KHS), the Regional Veterinary Authority (KVS) and the Police of the Czech Republic
• handles citizens’ reports and complaints concerning trade licences.
