Power of attorney templates

We strongly recommend that all owners of vehicles being sold consider very carefully and responsibly whom they grant power of attorney to, and whether it might not be more appropriate – and, above all, less risky – for them to transfer the vehicle themselves, with absolute certainty that they will not be faced with any fines, enforcement proceedings or unpleasantness with the police and authorities due to the irresponsible behaviour of the new owner, who, for whatever reason, has failed to complete the official transfer of the vehicle. This is because by granting a power of attorney, you are merely conferring a right, not a legally enforceable obligation to act. You therefore do not relieve yourself of the statutory obligation to transfer ownership of the vehicle within 10 working days of its sale, and you are thus unnecessarily exposing yourself to the risk of penalties.
