Location: the village lies 8 km north-west of Příbram. The view of the Obecnice valley will delight any romantic. The same is true, however, in the opposite direction. The wooded hills of the Brdy are just as beautiful when viewed from Obecnice. To the south lies Dubová hora (626 m above sea level) with Oseč, and at its foot Malá and Velká Třemešná (778 m above sea level); to the west is the colourful Klobouček (704 metres above sea level), behind which lies the highest peak of the Brdy range, the 865-metre-high Tok, and to the north, Brda (773 metres above sea level) with Radlice (709 metres above sea level). Although the landscape opens out to the east, this side also offers a picturesque view of the distant Brdy hills from the higher points of Obecnice. The rugged terrain, framed by a dark wall of coniferous forests, creates a beautiful panorama around Obecnice (524 metres above sea level) that is truly worth seeing. Five kilometres west of the village lies the Pěchotní srub fort on Jordán – a heavy military fortification dating from 1936, built during the period of the Nazi threat. It is currently used as a memorial by the Military History Club.

The first historical references to Obecnice date from 1394. A cultural heritage site from the 18th century, which also bears witness to the strong Marian tradition in our country, is a granite column with a cast-iron statue of the Virgin Mary. It stands on a hillock near the cemetery known as ‘Panenka’. The most significant cultural and historical monument from the 19th century is the Church of St Simon and St Jude.
From the history of mining: the first record of mining in Obecnice, dating from 1556, mentions the Reichentrost (Rich Delight) pit and the Gabe Gottes (God’s Gift) pit. In more recent times, a shaft known as ‘Bohatá naděje’ (Rich Hope) was sunk in 1912 near Obecnice, by the road from Lhota. It reached a depth of 59 metres, but the hopes placed in it were not realised, and in 1919 all mining operations in Obecnice were halted.
Today, Obecnice is renowned for hosting the Bečánovský Nuget. This is an annual spectacle, which usually takes place on the second Sunday in February and consists of a human-drawn sledge race. The number of competitors and visitors has long since spread beyond the region’s borders. In the summer, the Obecnice lido hosts ‘Obecnické muzicírování’ – weekends filled with music and entertainment.
