The first written record dates from 1454. The village lies north of Příbram, and its built-up area merges seamlessly with that of the neighbouring village of Jince. A prominent feature of the village is the industrial estate – formerly a single company, Čenkovské strojírny – which now houses several firms: Air Čenkov (formed from Čenkovské strojírny), Kostal, Apollo Metal, HB Metal and a number of smaller companies.
