Project titleDredging and restoration of Čekalíkovský Pond
Operational ProgrammeOperational Programme: Environment
Brief description of the project

The implementation of the project ‘Dredging and refurbishment of Čekalíkovský Pond’ in Příbram will involve the refurbishment of the inlet and outlet structures, the repair of the dam, and the dredging of the reservoir and the inlet ditch. Upon completion, the reservoir will be filled to a constant water level, re-establishing the water feature. Part of the reservoir’s redesign involves the creation of an extensive littoral zone, which will enhance the site’s potential for the development of valuable aquatic and transitional ecosystems.

In its current state, this local biocentre fulfils its function only partially. The reservoir is empty, with a silted-up inlet and no inflow. The poor condition of the dam, inlet and outlet structures prevents the reservoir from being maintained at a constant level. Water is present in the reservoir only following significant rainfall. The Čekalíkovský pond does not fulfil the function of a water feature.

Thanks to the repair and dredging of the small reservoir, and the construction of a weir on the stream, the inflow will be restored and the reservoir will be maintained at a constant level. Following on from this project, the greenery on the land surrounding Čekalíkovský Pond will be revitalised. Over time, biodiversity will increase in aquatic and transitional ecosystems thanks to the restored water feature with its littoral zone.
