Places of interest in Třemošná
Introducing Třemošná in Příbram would be like carrying coals to Newcastle. Even those who do not particularly seek out outdoor activities or time in nature have probably been there at some point.
This 779-metre-high landmark to the west of the town is quite simply ‘Příbram Mountain’, and the fact that it now falls within the cadastral boundaries of Obecnice does nothing to alter the positive attitude our town’s residents have towards this fascinating hill.
Although I have marked out a possible walking route (6.8 km long) on the map – one which I have personally come to favour – I think describing its course is almost unnecessary. I shall therefore limit myself to the bare essentials:
from Orlov, past the viewing platform (‘lookout tower’) to the U Slaniny gamekeeper’s lodge, along the Slanina forest track towards the Pilská reservoir to the junction with the blue trail, and then follow it uphill past the Pod Ohrádkou spring to the Nad Slaninou junction. Continue along the blue trail to the summit, from there to the Třemošenské sedélko (and from there, if desired, take a detour to Kazatelna and back). From the sedélko, follow the ridge to Malý kámen (Hadí skála) and down to the U Obrázku saddle, then continuing down (following the blue walking circuit) to the Pod Malou Třemošnou junction and continuing along the circuit to the Orlov junction marked with a yellow sign – and back to Orlov to the car park.
This time, I’ll just briefly highlight a few places that are definitely worth a look. They’re marked on the map with numbers from 1 to 10.
1. Kozičínské skály – a romantic and rather rugged range of conglomerate rocks at an altitude of 630 m, just above the hamlet of Kozičín. Although it is very easily accessible, few people know about it.
2. U Slaniny gamekeeper’s lodge – this, on the other hand, is known to just about everyone. But fewer people realise that right next to the lodge, towards Orlov, there is a game reserve with magnificent stags. Watching them is a lovely experience, not just for children.
3. The Unnamed Spring above Slanina – almost nobody knows about this one. At an altitude of 660 metres, a small stream springs from it, flowing towards Kozičín, and there are always plenty of brown boletes in the surrounding area, and occasionally spruce boletes too.
4. The Pod Ohrádkou spring (682 m) – the blue hiking trail passes by it, and the State Forest Administration (VLS) has even set up a pleasant rest area here. The spot is now known to quite a few day-trippers. The spring has a strong flow of good-quality water and is set in lovely surroundings beneath the slopes of Malá Ohrádka (735 m) and Ohrádka (747 m) – the second-highest peak of the Třemošenský Ridge.
5. Tocká Lookout (756 m) – from the large timber yard on Třemošenská Road, there is a very fine view across a steeply sloping clearing towards the highest peak of the Brdy, Toku (865 m) and, below it, the rounded Klobouček (703 m), as well as into the valley of the Albrechtský stream.
6. Třemošenské sedélko (759 m) – another lovely and romantic viewpoint overlooking the Toko area and Obecnice. From the saddle, the blue trail leads to the well-known Kazatelna.
7. Kazatelna (730 m) – a striking rock formation, a perfect example of frost weathering of the resistant Třemošné conglomerates, surrounded at its base by an extensive scree slope. Unless a viewing tower is built on Třemošná, Kazatelna will remain the best vantage point not only for views of Příbram, but also for views stretching far into the distance – as far as the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, the Novohradské Mountains and the Šumava Mountains with Boubín.
8. Malý kámen (737 m) – (also known as Hadí skála), another fine frost-weathered rock formation in the Třemošná Ridge. The rocky outcrop offers lovely views of Příbram and, to some extent, the Litavka Valley and the Hřebeny hills.
9. U Obrázku Saddle (695 m) – the saddle between Malý kámen and Malá Třemošná is named after a painting on a massive beech tree, in which miners are depicted bowing to the Virgin Mary. Once again, there are lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
10. Bunkers and memorial mound below Malá Třemošná (662 m) – a reminder of the Second World War and the anti-Nazi resistance in the Příbram region. Although there were probably no partisans in the bunkers, they served as a hideout for those being pursued and as a storehouse for provisions and perhaps even explosives.
The people of Příbram certainly need no reminding that Orlov and the Třemošná area are an ideal starting point for a trip to Tok. In winter, Orlov is also the starting point of the so-called Středobrdská ski trail, which runs via Tok and Jordán to Zaječov. I trust that many of our readers are very familiar with it.
